Running in Memory of Meg and Alex

I've followed my "Coach" for 4 weeks.
But this morning I ran .16 instead of 16.
I will run my 16 miles tomorrow.
I will join thousands in a virtual memorial run.

Every run tells a story.
Every runner can share a story.
Tomorrow, I will run and share.

I will run in memory of Meg...
And, I will share her story...

Meg Cross Menzies, mother of 3, was tragically killed by a drunk driver while out for her morning training run on Monday, January 13. As an avid runner and Boston marathoner, she was a member of the worldwide running family. In her honor, Meg's Miles hopes to raise awareness of drunk driving, texting and driving, and overall safety of runners and cyclists everywhere.

@TwinsRun together with #MEGSMILES.
I will run in memory of Alex...
And, I will share her story...
Alex would have been 18 on January 18. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete ...with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
@TwinsRun run together with #TeamLemon.

We're moved by two beautiful spirits who continue to inspire.
We can all make a difference, one run and one cup at a time.

Run in Memory of Meg Menzies #MEGSMILES

Runners across the country are being invited on social media to honor the memory of Virginian Meg Menzies on Saturday. Menzies, who lived in Hanover County, Va., with her husband and three young children, died Monday morning after being struck by an SUV on a Hanover County roadside while she was running about a mile from her home, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Gina Junkermann of Richmond, Va., places running shoes with the message of "MEG STRONG WE LOVE YOU!" at Hickory Hill Road and East Patrick Henry Road in Hanover County, Va., in honor of Meg Menzies, who died Monday after being struck by a car. Junkermann said she used to run with Menzies.

From the Meg's Miles Facebook page:

"Meg Cross Menzies was tragically killed by a drunk driver while out for her morning run on January 13, 2014. As an avid runner, member of the Richmond Road Runners Club, and Boston marathoner, she was a member of the running family nationwide. In her honor, our hope is to raise awareness of drunk driving, texting and driving, and overall safety of runners and cyclists everywhere.

"This Saturday, January 18, 2014, no matter what your distance, no matter where you live, run for Meg. Take in the fresh air, be aware of your surroundings, keep your headphones on low, feel the heaviness in your lungs, the soreness in your legs, and be grateful for it--for all of it. The sweat, the pain, the wind, the cold…everything. Be grateful for that moment.

"Feel free to post pictures of yourself pre-run or post-run, post your distance, post your thoughts, prayers, condolences with the hashtag #megsmiles. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. Let all runners unite together and remember the loss of a beautiful spirit. It's not a coincidence the hashtag reads either 'Meg's Mile'" or 'Meg Smiles.' She will be smiling on all of us forevermore."

As of 6pm on January 16, 62,000 responded to invitation.
Will you run on Saturday, January 18?

Join #MEGSMILES on Saturday, January 18

Join Meg's Miles this Saturday, January 18. "You don't have to be a runner. You can walk. Any distance. Anywhere in the world. Share with your friends. Let's continue to create awareness for drinking/texting while driving. Share the road with runners and cyclists. Lookout for one another. Always. #megsmiles" ~ Brooke Roney

Do you runDisney for the photo opportunities? I do! I stopped for all the character photos during the Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge.
When my identical twin sister signed us up for the Runner's World Challenge at Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, I wasn't sure what to expect. Walt Disney World is already is my fave destination race location.
Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge Finishers. We did it! @TwinsRun & Finish Goofy Challenge. Twins RAN 39.3 miles to raise $393. Fighting childhood cancer, one mile at a time.
I ran my 1st Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge in 2010. It was unseasonably cold in Florida. There was even sleet during the Half Marathon on Saturday!

And, Leah finished the Disney World Marathon in a boot cast! In 2012, Leah finished Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. And, Malinda finished the Disney World Half Marathon.
We were the 1st to join runDisney's Runners's World Challenge when registration opened and we are very excited! This will be our 2nd "Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge"
Today, January 7, is GG's birthday. On January 13, when @TwinsRun the 2nd half of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge, it will be 6 months since I received the phone call.
Michael, Leah's brother-in-law, was diagnosed with cancer as a child. Michael kept fighting cancer with his inspiring Irish spirit, so it was bittersweet when he died on St. Patrick's Day.
