Do you runDisney for the photo opportunities? I do! I stopped for all the character photos during the Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge.
When my identical twin sister signed us up for the Runner's World Challenge at Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, I wasn't sure what to expect. Walt Disney World is already is my fave destination race location.
Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge Finishers. We did it! @TwinsRun & Finish Goofy Challenge. Twins RAN 39.3 miles to raise $393. Fighting childhood cancer, one mile at a time.
I ran my 1st Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge in 2010. It was unseasonably cold in Florida. There was even sleet during the Half Marathon on Saturday!

And, Leah finished the Disney World Marathon in a boot cast! In 2012, Leah finished Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. And, Malinda finished the Disney World Half Marathon.
We were the 1st to join runDisney's Runners's World Challenge when registration opened and we are very excited! This will be our 2nd "Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge"
Today, January 7, is GG's birthday. On January 13, when @TwinsRun the 2nd half of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge, it will be 6 months since I received the phone call.
Michael, Leah's brother-in-law, was diagnosed with cancer as a child. Michael kept fighting cancer with his inspiring Irish spirit, so it was bittersweet when he died on St. Patrick's Day.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Coping with Marathon Disappointment

I hadn't heard this song for years and then I heard it on Monday. I laughed and then I cried (sort of). I dreamed of and trained for a BQ. But, I didn't reach my goal in Chicago. Leah and I ran together for 12 miles. But, then I hit the "Great Wall" in Chinatown... she ran on and I walked alone. It was a definitely a "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Yes, I am disappointed and I will wallow for a bit. But, then I will try again. I have not given up on my goal to BQ.

Last year, I was caught in a tweet and run. Sunday, I was caught in a walk and marathon. ;-)

I may not have reached my goals, but I finished with my 2nd fastest time.

BTW...Nike Plus was way off again. Although, it felt like 27.7 miles!

Massage me!

Did you run the Chicago Marathon?

Did you meet your race goals?

How do you cope with race disappointment?

My 3G Network: Grief, Gastroparesis & Goofy Challenge

Today, January 7, is GG's birthday. On January 13, when @TwinsRun the 2nd half of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge, it will be 6 months since I received the phone call. On Friday, July 13, our mom called to tell me that our grandma, GG, had fallen and was very ill. GG was diagnosed with cancer and died on Monday, July 16. The grief over the past 6 months has been intense. My only solace has been running (#Irun4GG). I'm grateful that Leah and I will run Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge together to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer in her memory. She was so proud of us for supporting such a worthy cause.

I grieve for myself, my family and especially for my mom. I wish I could give more support to my mom, because she lost her mom and best friend. I can only imagine how difficult it has been for her since I can't imagine my life without my mom.

It's been especially difficult for me lately, since I still struggle with gastroparesis. Sometimes, the physical pain is easier to cope with than the emotional pain. Even with the pain, I'm grateful for the support I received from GG and the support I continue to receive from my mom. Because of their support, it's important for me to keep going and to keep giving back to others.

Twins Run Goofy's Race & a Half Challenge

2 weeks til @TwinsRun 2gether
We are identical twins but opposite runners. Leah is the faster 1/2 and Boston Marathon QualifierMalinda is the slower 1/2 who prefers to #TweetAndRun

Michael, Leah's brother-in-law, was diagnosed with cancer as a child. Michael kept fighting cancer with his inspiring Irish spirit, so it was bittersweet when he died on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2003

Our grandmother, affectionately known as GG, was diagnosed with cancer on Friday, July 13 and died on Monday, July 16, 2012. Her sudden and unexpected death affected the twins profoundly.

Follow @TwinsRun as we train for Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge

If you're a lemon passing me, I'm Malinda

I didn't wear a lemon costume, but I wore all yellow!
* iFitness belt
* Team Sparkle Skirt
* Zensah Sleeves
* Spreadshirt Custom T-shirt
When I saw the yellow tutus made by Coach Mary...
I just had to buy one to complete my ensemble!
It was a great race to #TweetAndRun for a great cause.
I could blame it on my taper madness but,
I just couldn't keep up with the Running Lemon...
I'm glad I wore my @TwinsRun shirt.
Alex's father, "Lemonade Jay" said,
"Hey, there's one of the twins that run"
as he passed me, of course! :-)
My Nike+ data wasn't quite accurate...
Lemonade at the Finish Line!
It wasn't my fastest 5k but it was...
my 1st time to place 3rd in my division!
On Sunday, I'll #TweetAndRun the Philly Marathon!

Fighting childhood cancer, one race at a time!
